28 Ways to Make a Difference

Introducing the 28 Ways to Make a Difference (in your Community, in your Home, and in your Life) Challenge!

As a way of celebrating my birthday month, I’m sharing easy things you can do that make a difference to those around you, and to yourself, in small and simple ways.

Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that in order to make a difference, our actions have to be grandiose. I believe that is simply not true. We can each do small things every single day that have a big impact on ourselves, on each other and on our community.

Are you ready to make a difference? Let’s go!

——-

01: Support local small businesses

02: By a plant and hang artwork

03: Have a date day with each kid

04: Share Black stories and diverse literature with young children

05: Check in with someone by asking, “How are you doing right now?”

06: Find a way to move each day

07: Show up…for yourself and for them

08: Find the magic in the mess

09: Find ways to volunteer and give back to your community

10: Take three rainbow breaths:

🌈 Sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor.

🌈Place your arms straight out on either side of your body, palms facing up.

🌈As you raise your arms up over your head, inhale deeply through your nose.

🌈Let your hands gently clap above your hand. Hold that breath!

🌈Turn your hands palms facing out as you slowly bring them down while exhaling through your mouth.

🌈Repeat 3x and instantly feel amazing!

11: Rest

12: Find a personal project that speaks to you

13: Love on yourself as much you love on others

14: Support another local small business

15: Have a spontaneous dance party

16: Do the thing. The thing you keep putting off. The thing that lights a little fire inside every time you think about it. The thing you think is too hard or too scary or is too much work. Do it anyway.

17: Instead of asking, “how was your day,” try starting conversations with kids by sharing Roses (good things that happened) and Thorns (bad/frustrating things that happened)

18: Eat the frogs first (the tasks that you dread or are the hardest…this will help clear your mind and give you the energy to complete other tasks throughout the day)

19: See things from your child’s point of view

20: Print your favorite photos on a regular basis

21: “Baby airplane” surprises and delights young babies when their adults swoop them in the air…try surprising someone in a meaningful way today

22: Please and thank you…use them often

23: Make a small step in reducing the amount of plastic waste - try a service like Zero Grocery

24: Schedule a Power Hour on your own or with a friend (choose a task to accomplish, state it to your friend, set a timer and get it done!)

25; Sunshine - Sleep - Self-Care

26: Send flowers to someone

27: Find your balance and fully embrace all of the parts of YOU

28: Learn how to stand up for someone being harassed through bystander intervention training with Hollaback!
